Cambodia's PM to attend summit in Thailand
Last Updated:
Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Sen will attend a regional summit in neighbouring Thailand next month despite an earlier statement that he may not go.
Hun Sen earlier last week said it would be costly and difficult for him to attend the Association of Southeast Asian Nations meeting.
The meeting was recently moved from the Thai capital to the seaside town of Hua Hin.
A government spokesman says the prime minister feels confident he can now attend the conference.
The summit was originally set to be held in Bangkok in December, but was moved first to the northern city of Chiang Mai, then delayed and moved again as political turmoil engulfed Thailand.
Thailand currently holds the rotating chairmanship of ASEAN, which groups it with Brunei, Cambodia, Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, Burma, the Philippines, Singapore and Vietnam.
Australia goes to the polls on August 21.
