A forum gets underway in Solomon Islands on Thursday to discuss the country's dolphin export trade.

It is being organised by the the Solomons Ministry for Environment, Conservation and Meteorology and will discuss the capture and sale of Indo-Pacific bottlenose dolphins.

It'll be attended by government, business and enviromental delegates.

The Solomons government says it's determined to ensure the export of dolphins is sustainable and conducted in a transparent fashion.

The Solomons began selling bottlenose dolphins in 2003 and ever since there has been widespread opposition to the trade and criticism from the Australian and New Zealand governments.
