There have been a number of violent attacks in Pakistan overnight, near the Afghan border and in the capital Islamabad.

A suicide bomber killed eight troops in an attack on their post in central Islamabad.

In a separate attack near the Afghan border, seven people, including two children, were killed at a paramilitary checkpoint in Miranshah when a suicide bomber blew up a car.

President Asif Ali Zardari and Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani have condemned the attacks.

The government has slammed a new wave of terrorism targeting the security forces.

Meanwhile, 13 people were killed when a pilotless U-S drone aircraft hit a stronghold of al Qaeda and Taliban militants in north Waziristan on the Afghan border.

One intelligence official says the missile hit a house where some guests were staying.
