Tropical storm Mirinae is expected to hit Vietnam's central coast by midday on Monday, after killing at least 14 people in the Philippines.

It hit the Philippines capital, Manila, and surrounding areas over the weekend before moving out to sea and weakening into a storm.

Mirinae is the fourth severe weather formation to hit the region in five weeks.

As it approaches Vietnam, prime minister Nguyen Tan Dung has ordered residents to leave high-risk areas in five coastal provinces.

The government told fisherman in the South China Sea to seek shelter immediately.
