Vanuatu begins national census
Last Updated:
Field workers have begun collecting information for Vanuatu's 2009 national census.
They have been given two weeks, beginning from 16 November, to collect information from every household in the country.
The last census took place in 1999, and put the total population at 186,000.
Census manager, Benuel Lenge, told Radio Australia that the results of the national count are expected in the middle of next year.
They are expected to show that the population will be well over 200,000 people.
Australia goes to the polls on August 21.
