Philippine government agents have recovered more than 200 kilos of high-grade cocaine in seas off the central part of the country.

The drugs were allegedly dumped in the waters by a foreign-owned vessel.

Justice Secretary Agnes Devanadera says three kilos of cocaine from the shipment were recently recovered in the waters off the central province of Samar.

The shipment was from South America and was bound for Hong Kong.

The justice secretary says the Philippines was not the intended end-user of the cocaine.

It was dumped in the waters in December when the group transporting the shipment learned it was under surveillance.

Fishermen led authorities to cocaine bricks they allegedly found at sea. But there are reports that some fishermen have hoarded some of the illegal drugs.
