Australia's opposition still expects Obama visit
Last Updated:
The Deputy Australian Opposition Leader Julie Bishop says she still expects the United States President to address Federal Parliament later this month.
The White House says that President Barack Obama will delay and shorten his planned trip to Australia, Indonesia and Guam to work on getting his health care bill through Congress.
Ms Bishop has told Australia's Channel Nine the President's visit will still be a significant moment.
"It's no reflection on Australia that President Obama may well have to cut short his visit," she said.
"Any visit by a United States President is a matter of significance to Australia.
"I expect President Obama will still address a Joint Sitting of both houses of parliament."
Australia goes to the polls on August 21.
