Leaders are gathering in Fiji for Thursday's Friends of Fiji meeting.

The Kiribati president and the Prime Ministers of Tuvalu and Solomon Islands have already arrived in Fiji.

PNG Prime Minister Sir Michael Somare was expected later today, depending on the outcome of the Port Moresby parliament's no confidence motion.

The meeting will be held at a resort south west of Nadi, and takes place despite concerns from Vanuatu of the validity of Fiji's non-elected government chairing the meeting.

Fiji Village news website reports Solomon Islands' Prime Minister Derek Sikua says his government has always supported Commodore Frank Bainimarama chairing the group conference.
